Terms of Use

ProductSafer (productsafer.com) is an independent service that summarises published research and official recall notices about everyday products, offers free consumer safety tools, and sells optional paid plans and business services. We are not a medical provider and are not affiliated with any brand or government agency.

Everything on ProductSafer is for general information. Nothing on this site is medical, legal or regulatory advice. Before making a health decision, including changing a product, diet, medication or treatment, check with a qualified professional.

You must be at least 13 to use this site, and 18 or over to buy a paid plan or business service.

We summarise publicly available research, recall notices and journalism, credit the original sources and link to them so you can read them in full. We do not claim ownership of the underlying research or reporting. Our summaries are our editorial interpretation and may contain errors or simplifications.

We aim for accuracy, but research, recalls and product formulations change. Findings may be updated, corrected or removed as new information becomes available. Please use our content as a starting point, not as the basis for a health decision on its own. If you spot an error, please tell us.

If you subscribe, we send a weekly digest (you can choose instant alerts instead on your preferences page) and a short series of welcome emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. We never sell or rent your email address; it is shared only with the service providers that send our emails, as listed in our Privacy Policy.

If you submit a comment, finding tip, product suggestion or correction, you give us a free, non-exclusive licence to review, edit, publish and remove it, with or without attribution. Comments are moderated before they appear. Do not post anything unlawful, defamatory or that you do not have the right to share.

Some links, particularly to Amazon, are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never influence which findings we cover or how we present them.

Family costs £4.99 a month and Pro £9.99 a month. Prices are in pounds sterling and are the total you pay. Payments are taken by Stripe. Your plan is billed monthly in advance and renews automatically each month until you cancel.

Your right to cancel. You can cancel within 14 days of buying a plan for any reason and we will refund what you paid in full. To do this, email admin@productsafer.com or use “Manage billing or cancel” on your account page and tell us you want a refund.

Cancelling at other times. You can cancel at any time with “Manage billing or cancel” on your account page. Your plan stays active until the end of the month you have paid for and then does not renew. We do not refund part-used months except as above or where the law requires it.

Deleting your account. If you delete your account, any paid plan is cancelled immediately and your access ends at once. If you do this within 14 days of buying, we will refund you as above.

Price changes. We will email you at least 30 days before a price change, and you can cancel before it applies.

Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer, including your right to a service provided with reasonable care and skill.

These terms also apply when you buy Recall Monitoring, a paid Developer API plan, ProductSafer Verified, a Safety Report or a sponsorship placement. These services are designed for businesses. If you buy one as a consumer, the cancellation and statutory rights in “Family and Pro plans” apply to you instead of the business-only limits below.

Billing and renewal. Payments are taken by Stripe. Recall Monitoring and Developer API plans are billed monthly in advance, and ProductSafer Verified yearly in advance. They renew automatically until you cancel. Prices are in pounds sterling and are the total you pay.

Free trial. The Shop and Business Recall Monitoring plans include a 14-day free trial; other plans do not unless the pricing page says so. We take your card details at sign-up but do not charge you if you cancel before the trial ends. If you do not cancel, your first monthly payment is taken when the trial ends. Stripe emails you before the trial ends.

Cancelling. Recall Monitoring: cancel at any time with “Manage billing or cancel” on the private page linked from your welcome email. Developer API plans and ProductSafer Verified: email admin@productsafer.com and we will cancel within two working days. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and the service continues until then. We do not refund part-used periods unless the law requires it.

One-off purchases. A Safety Report and a sponsorship placement are paid once and do not renew. Once we have started work on a report, or a placement has run, the fee is not refundable except where the law requires it.

Price changes. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change applies to your subscription, so you can cancel first if you wish.

What Recall Monitoring does. Once a day, usually early morning UK time, we check the recall and safety notices published by the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and email you when one appears to match the brands, products or categories you gave us. We do not monitor other regulators. Matching is automated and best-effort: a recall can be missed if names differ, a regulator's feed is late or unavailable, or a notice is not published in a feed we monitor, and some alerts may not be relevant. Recall Monitoring helps you stay informed. It does not replace your own legal duties under product safety law, your monitoring of official sources, or notices from your suppliers.

Safety Reports and ProductSafer Verified. A Safety Report summarises information already published by third parties and on ProductSafer at the date of the report. It is not a test of your product, a legal opinion or a compliance certificate. ProductSafer Verified means only that the ingredient list you submitted did not match our flagged-substances database at the time of review.

Liability for business services. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, our total liability to a business customer for all claims arising in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us for the service in that period and £100, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue or goodwill, or the costs of any recall, withdrawal or stock write-off.

Your information. We use the contact details, brands and categories you give us only to provide the service, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend a service if payment fails or it is misused.

ProductSafer's original writing, design and code are ours. Source articles, studies and reports belong to their publishers. Please contact us before reproducing our original editorial content.

We work hard to keep ProductSafer accurate, but our tools (including the barcode scanner, label reader, allergen, pregnancy and ingredient checkers) use automated and AI-generated analysis that can be wrong or incomplete. Always read the product label and, for allergies, pregnancy, medication or other health decisions, check with a qualified professional. Our free content and tools are provided without any promise that they are complete or error-free. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses arising from our free content and tools. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or our services. If you have a paid plan or business service, we will email you at least 30 days before a change that materially affects you, and you can cancel before it applies without penalty. The date at the top shows the latest version.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring claims in your local courts. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
